Meniskus

“Who would believe this much sound could come from just a violin, a guitar and a collection of drums?” Meniscus asks. The truth is most people wouldn’t. With a violin in the mix, you expect a bluegrass or a country sound, but Meniscus is a rock band. There is something familiar about Eric Ostberg’s voice, which sounds like he could have been apart of Tonic or any other band in the late 90s, yet they are not predictable.

Osterberg’s violin sounds like a synthesizer, and “Letters” becomes a dance song. Where at first “Sprezzatura” seems like it could be a competition to figure out who can rock more, the end shows off how well the three play as a band. Although it is not rare to see strings in a band, it is rare to use it as an instrument for rock n' roll. This fact makes the band a little more interesting, and pushes the limits of the “rock” genre.
