Allà (pronounced i-yah) came to New York for the first time on July 9th to perform at Joe’s Pub. The Pub’s lounge vibe went nicely with the psychedelic sounds of the Mexican-American Chicago band. Drummer Angel Ledezma brought intense vitality to the stage, while singer Lupe Martinez used her feminine vocals to explicate passion with a slightly calmer tone. Jorge Ledezma eloquently thanked the unfortunately sparse audience for their support, and the overall musical energy of the room was great.
"Tu Vida," one of the bands favorite songs off the recently released Es Tiempo, was a show-stopper, with great drums and unified vocals. Allà was exceptionally tight, with every interesting beat flowing in unison. Allà is little-known and underappreciated, but they’re an amazing musical gem. Hopefully this will not be their last trip to New York.
