Describing Celebration would make them seem pretty ordinary—a rock/post-punk band that makes music you can dance to—but, in reality, they are anything but. Katrina Ford, of the Baltimore-based band, believes that “the ideas about genre are outdated,” and claims, “we don’t want to be boxed in.” Ford, the lone female in the band, transcends gender by teaching herself to “sing like a man.” Ford lowered her register and developed her own distinct style. Sean Antanaitis, Ford’s husband, has been playing with her since high school. Antanaitis has gone from a guitarist to a multi-instrumentalist, adding keyboards and pedal bass to his repertoire, and, even more impressively, he is able to play all three simultaneously. With the addition of Dave Bergander as drummer, the group started calling themselves Celebration.
